Day 04 Valletta 6 Qormi 0

Valletta vs Qormi

Valletta showed all their scoring prowess as they brushed aside Qormi 6-0 in a one-sided encounter at the National Stadium.

The Malta champions took just 14 minutes to break the stalemate when Bojan Kaljevic was at the end of Miguel Alba’s cross and the Montenegrin headed the ball past Qormi goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.

Valletta continued to hold the initiative and on 33 minutes, Alba’s first-time effort scraped past the post. Two minutes later, it was the turn of Piciollo to hit just wide from the left.

Valletta maintained the pressure and on the 57th minute, they were awarded a penalty after Fontanella was brought down inside the area by Jamie Azzopardi. From the spot, Alba planted the ball in the bottom left corner to double the score.

On the hour, Fontanella made it 3-0. The usual Alba crossed from the right, Kaljevic chested the ball down and Fontanella slotted the ball past the Qormi custodian.

The Citizens kept pushing for more and increased the lead in the 71st minute.

Piciollo entered the area from the right and anticipated the goalkeeper to serve the unmarked Kaljevic who placed the ball inside the empty net.

On the 78 minutes, Alba intelligently served Matteo Piciollo but the latter’s effort hit the side netting.

However two minutes later, Valletta made it 5-0. Kaljevic sent Fontanella through on the left and Italian striker slotted past the helpless Azzopardi.

The game was not over yet as two minutes from time, Valletta scored the sixth goal.

Piciollo sent substitute Bogdan Gavrila through on the right and the Romanian midfielder rounded a defender before beating the Qormi goalkeeper with an angled shot.
