Day 2 Valletta 0 Tarxien R 0
24/08/2014
Valletta are still in search of their first victory in the 2014-15 season after they could only manage a goalless draw against Tarxien Rainbows today.
The champions dominated their opponents for much of the match but they could not find a way past a solid Tarxien defence.
Valletta were soon on the offensive and after three minutes Kooh-Sohna charged into the area before sending a low cross towards Steve Borg who stabbed the ball wide.
On seven minutes Tarxien protested for a penalty when Alvaro Rodrigues Silva dispossessed Borg in the area but then fell under the challenge of the City defender but the referee waved play on.
Valletta’s best chance of the half came three minutes from the interval when Kooh-Sohna squared the ball towards the unmarked Montebello who with only Jonathan Debono to beat shot straight into the Tarxien goalkeeper.
The second half maintained the same script with Valletta holding the majority of possession but rarely threatening the Tarxien goal.
Ian Zammit had the best chance to net the winner on 72 minutes when he latched on to Abdelkarim Nafti’s cross but his volley was cleared off the line by Ryan Sammut.
Valletta defender Shaun Bajada was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
