Day 20 valletta 3 Pieta H. 0

Valletta vs Pieta H

Valletta broke little sweat to see off struggling Pietà Hotspurs 3-0 and go top of the Premier League standings.

The Citizens made their intentions clear right from the start and on the sixth minute, Kaljevic chested the ball down for Jean Borg whose fine effort ended just wide.

A minute later, Kaljevic hit wide from close range off an inviting cross from the left by Miguel Angel Alba.

Valletta opened the score on 28 minutes.

Despite Singh and Radovanovic’s marking, Kaljevic managed to cross the ball from the right and Mario Fontanella headed past Nicky Vella.

Four minutes later, the Citizens went close once again when Fontanella rounded the goalkeeper but his assist was intercepted by a defender and cleared into safety.

On 36 minutes, Valletta made it 2-0 as Santiago Malano rose high to head the ball home off a free-kick by Bogdan Gavrila.

Three minutes from the end of the first half, Valletta scored the third goal. Gavrila pounced on a long through-pass by Alba, beating the offside trap, and with a fine effort beat Vella with the ball hitting the upright before ending into the back of the net.

Six minutes in the second half, Kaljevic could have made it 4-0 when he received a through pass by Fontanella but his conclusion hit the foot of the upright with Travis Bartolo clearing the ball into a corner.
