Juan Cruz was born on 18 July 1983. He made his debut as professional footballer with Talleres de Córdoba, a football club based in Argentina in 2004. Cruz made his debut on 20 June 2004 with a 3–2 win over River Plate. After four seasons with team from Córdoba, Cruz Gill moved to Chilean Primera División and joined Deportes Melipilla in 2008. Unfortunately at the end of the season, his team was relegated to the second tier.

In January 2009, Juan joined Cypriot club Ermis Aradippou he formed part of the squad that won the Second Division title in the 2008-09 season.

In 2011, Juan Cruz travelled to Venezuela and joined Estudiantes de Mérida. The following year, Cruz Gill returned to Chile and joined Primera B side Unión Temuco.

Season 2013-2014, Cruz joined Deportes Temuco, a Chilean football club based in Temuco. Juan made a total of 25 appearances for the Chilean side and scored two goals.
In July 2015, Juan Cruz travelled to Malta and joined Valletta F.C. Gill spent 4 years with Valletta FC making a total of 57 appearances before leaving the Citizens and joining Tarxien Rainbows on loan in 2019. Season 2019-2020 Juan joined Sliema Wanderers making a total of 12 appearances with the Wanderers and in 2020-2021 Juan joined LIja Athletic and later on joined newly promoted Marsaxlokk FC.

Juan Cruz Gill returned with Valletta FC in June 2023 as an assistant coach.
